What Does Success Mean to Me and Video?

February 21, 2014

"Success is something that I don't believe can be measured by anyone for someone else. I believe we all have our own level of success that we choose to want and desire."

There are some people who strive for the American Dream. They want a nice job, a family, children and comfortable living conditions. Some people just want to be able to eat for the night. There are others who want to pass a test or graduate from high school. There is no simple measure on what success is for any one person.

As a creative professional, I find the entertainment industry and entrepreneurship, to be risky business, but I'm still here, setting certain levels of success that I strive to achieve. There are hundreds of actors here in Los Angeles, Ca and across the country, with their own levels of success, when it comes to being a performer.

I aspire to be successful in film and television, but I don't like to put myself into a box on these specifics. I have learned that when I narrow-mindedly pin myself into a box, I canceled out opportunities that could have come my way. So instead, I work on myself by being a student of the industry. I continue to write short scripts, film them, attend functions to learn from producers, directors, cinematographers, and a whole gamet of people. In general, I find that people, who are not in the "industry", offer a wealth of knowledge and guidance. My success is based on what makes me happy at the end of the day. That's all that really matters anyway.

Success to me is setting goals, striving to reach them, knowing that it will not be easy all of the time, but staying consistent, hungry, and determined. I know and understand, that my success is not based on being perfect, no matter how much I strive to reach it, I will never be. I also have learned and understood that success to me is not about material things because they can come and go in the blink of an eye. Take a look at all of the examples across the globe. Success is what you possess on the inside of yourself. It is what I live with in my heart and soul and what drives me to get up to face a new day. Success to me is knowing that whether or not I pass or fail, succeed or fall short, that I have given it my best shot. Success to me is never giving up on myself and what I want for me.

While on YouTube this week, I was listening to music in my saved playlist. I heard the song, "Successful" by Drake & Trey Songz. It really got me thinking about this topic, which is why I wrote it all out for you here.

Listen to the lyrics, in the video --

"I want the Money, money and the cars, cars and the clothes, I supposed.

I just wanna be, I just wanna be successful."

I just wanna be, I just wanna be successful."

I just wanna be, I just wanna be successful."

I believe that's what we all want. We just want to be successful. Once we reach the levels of success we want to acheive, the other stuff that comes into our lives are secondary.
