I attended an audition at ASG Casting Studios and had a postcard about their Core Commercial Class with Scott Wissner. So, I finally had the time to take the Thursday Night classes for the next 4 weeks from 7-10PM. Before every class, we could ask Scott anything about Casting, Auditioning as a Commercial Actor, Bookings we had achieved, and everything in-between as far as commercials. Scott was very personable and a pretty cool guy to learn from and laugh out-loud with, during class. The other actors in the class were of all levels, so no one felt out of place or left out. There were complete newbies to commercial acting and others were intermediate to advanced. I really liked that because we all learned from each other, learned from Scott, and had the opportunity to watch the playbacks of our performances on-camera from home through a link that was emailed before the end of class.
On the final day of class, we also got a special visit from Arlene Schuster-Goss, the founder of ASG Casting and Casting Director. She was very personable as well, and answered our casting questions and worked with us on a two-person commercial scene, giving very detailed instructions, advice, and tips.
Some of the things I learned: how to enter the room, slating your name into the camera, reading from the commercial copy posted for you in the auditioning room, making yourself and your partner look good in an audition, what's REALLY going on during Callbacks for the actor and client, your commercial TYPE, Improvisation with your commercial copy, plenty of Q&A time and playbacks of your work during the class to watch at home and learn from, and as I said earlier, I learned from my fellow classmates and gained new acting friendships and worked with really cool casting directors! I recommend this class for actors in Los Angeles.
